Cooking with An Infant

Oh little Miles, you're quite the character.

I finally did some cooking this week and with the whole anxiety of being a new Mom, it was quite the experience. I made Parmesan Encrusted Tilapia and Jason's Favorite Potatoes.

It took me twice as long as it normally does to do my cooking prep work because I constantly was checking up on my little guy, between his little noises and making sure he had everything he needed to take a nap. Oh and Mr. Personality, was totally hamming it up in the living room while I was peeking at him from the kitchen, providing me with even more distractions.

So alas, I give you my...

Tips for cooking with an Infant:

While cooking, make sure you can hear and see your baby at all times. You never know what could happen (or what kind of nonsense they could get into) when you don’t have two eyes on them. Make sure your baby is safe and secure.

Make sure your baby has everything he/she needs before you start cooking. Swaddling Blanket? Pacifier? Toy? Feed? Changed? Etc. Etc.

Be prepared for your prep time to last longer. Chop things slower and don’t rush.

Be prepared to take breaks while cooking. If cooking multiple things, take a few minutes away from your oven to entertain your baby (if they’re awake still).

Be aware of kitchen hazards for your own personal safety. Watch your hands when it comes to your knives and be aware of your heat source (stove top/pans). Especially if you have a noisy little one that makes your hands a little jittery.

Feel free to take my tips or leave them, I don't really consider myself to be a Mom blogger. I just wrote this up so I can remind myself of these things during my next cooking experience with Miles.

Happy Sunday y'all! :)

Your tips are all spot on. As the mom of kids who are now grown, I will tell you it does get easier with practice...until they get mobile....then you need to develop a whole new strategy. Ha. Enjoy! (I found your blog via Life with a Side of Coffee....I am always looking for new blogs to read, and I was attracted to the name of your blog on her sidebar. : ) )
