Some of my earrings!

Hey everyone,

So I've been making a lot of earrings lately in hopes of starting my etsy shop back up in 2010!

Been using lots of vintage beads and findings as well as some new gems I've been finding with the help of JR.

Here are some of them!

What do you think??

Sometimes I hate the internet..

I hate when I log into flickr (or google my name) to find that someone else has COPIED my work or used my work on my their website without my name attached!!

It's very frustrating.

Tonight I came across this:

Because this is the original drawing of MINE:

It is one thing to appropriate something you see in a piece or even a style, it's another thing to directly copy!

PLAGARISM is not flattery.

the little things

I was going to write a blog post today but blogger evidentally does want to upload images for me until another time!

But I'll make a random list..

Things I've enjoyed today so far:
I'm on fall break so I'm really trying to de-stress because it's much needed.

1. Reading all the various blogs I follow on Google reader this morning.

2. Gunpowder Green tea with a dash of honey.

3. I talked to my brother, who moved to Israel last week.

4. Took a bubble bath with my Pomegranate Bubble Bath from Sephora.

5. Made two Artist Trading Cards for members of my new project,

6. Waking up to the sounds of the Bell Tower at KU this morning (I don't live far so I hear the bells every hour or so when they chime).

7. Seeing Where the Wild Things Are movie sometime this weekend.

8. Watching the clouds shift through my glass door.

9. Walking around barefoot in my apartment

My professor gave me box of glass medical slides today.
She found them when she was in grad school at RISD in a trashcan.
The side of the box reads Feb. 1965 but I think they're older.

They are about 2.5 x 3 inches in size from looks.
I'm excited to draw some of them...I've taped them on my sliding glass door so the light hits them well :)

I know I promised to blog more and I'm already slacking.

So here are some shots from what I've been working on in the studio the past couple of days.

Monotypes, drawings, oh and an accordion book on my desk ;)

My new favorite snack!!

yoga chips

I won a bunch of these awesome organic apple chips from one of my favorite Blogs!
Jennie writes about all things eco-friendly and green, it never disappoints!
you can check out Jennie and the lovely "Sweet Greens" blog here:

....and now more about why you should check out Yoga Chips!!
-All Natural, USDA Organic
-Fat Free and No Sugar Added
-No Preservatives
-100% Fuji Apples (my favorite kind) ;)

These chips are so tasty!!
They come in 5 different flavors:
Original, Apple Cinnamon, Caramel, Peach and Strawberry

I'm a big fan of the Peach ;)

Also, for those with peanut allergies, it reads on the packaging "This product does not contain any traces of nuts or peanuts." So no worries there!

They are made by yogavive,

It's Friday: Favorite Things

For as many blogs as I read, I rarely actually blog myself.

So in an effort to blog more,
I'm going to start trying to write about some of my favorite things.
This is probably going to be a random list..but I plan to write about favorite things in my studio, artists, art supplies, blogs, websites, etc...eventually (hopefully).

They are such fascinating creatures.
Image taken by me on my old blackberry phone at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland.

One of my favorite fruits. Love pomegranate juice and various pomegranate teas.

Flea markets, consignment shops and thrift stores.
When I was a kid I always got super excited going to flea markets because my Mom would always buy me vintage buttons, beads and all kinds of small bits. There is always quite an assortment of people and things. I'm definitely a believer in the phrase "One person's trash is another person's treasure."

Old beat up sneakers.
So comfortable.

Rainy Sunday Mornings.

Getting Things in the Mail.
And you should check out my new site,

which is made for people who like sending/receiving things through the mail! :)

Bagels and Coffee with my Parents.
I miss it since I've gotten to Kansas.

Thoughts, Aspirations, and Future Goals

I cherish this photo above, seen in one of my moleskine sketchbooks. A stranger mailed it to me a long time ago without a return address, I know it's from "June 1973" and belonged to their grandmother. This was one of four pictures in the envelope.

In an effort to be more positive and stay positive...I thought it would be nice for me to post some small goals I would like to accomplish in the next couple of months.

In no particular order here they are:

1. I bought a couple new moleskines, some cahiers and volants. My hope is that I start sketching again...even throughout art school I didn't sketch much not unless it would effect my grade if I didn't.

2. Start collecting postcards again.

3. --removed--

4. Find some new bands/musicians I love.

5. Start a moss terrarium, or buy one.

6. Spend less time with my cell phone. I shouldn't be playing with it so much.

7. Track down a place that sells Mandarin Orange Green Tea..I had it at a restaurant and can't stop thinking about how much I enjoy it.

8. Sleep in on Sunday mornings, or at least try to. I'm not very good at sleeping in.

9. Buy more reusable shopping bags, I hate plastic.

10. I've become way more patient but I think I need to not bottle up the things I really want to say.

Beach Finds!

So I scan the beach daily (while I'm at my parents house) with my yellow lab.
I collect pretty much anything I find interesting.
Today I collected all of this in these pictures...between a pound to two pounds of stuff! :)

You can click the pictures to view them larger...but look at all the seaglass, pottery bits and interesting rocks :)

I learned how to wire wrap sea glass last week to make pendants. I'll be photographing those soon and making more with my finds.

Lush Ocean Salt

I love the beach as does my yellow lab Mason..and I've recently found the beach in a jar!

I'm obsessed with "Lush Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub"!

Some things I really enjoy about this scrub:
-It smells amazing (but isn't overpowering).
-Love the color, it's a pretty blue.
-It exfoliates without drying out my skin!
-It leaves my skin feeling so soft!
-it's fulled with all NATURAL ingredients :)

I also enjoy the fact that I can use it on my sensitive skin.

On the jar it reads:
"We take the lime and the coconut (and grapefruit and sea salt) and mix them together in our simulating, fruity, vodka-based face scrub. For a complexion that glows."

To check out more customer reviews and possibly pick up a jar for yourself, You can check it out on Lush's website here:

GiveAway Winner!!

My giveaway winner is Rachel!

Congrats! You will be receiving mail from me soon :)

Saturday, June 20, 2009

Sometime after three this morning (I remember that time because I woke up and fell back asleep)...

I had a dream that JR and I had twins.
A girl and a boy. We named the boy "Henry James".
I can't remember anything else in the dream besides the fact that I woke up in the hospital and JR was wearing a turquoise shirt.

JR and I aren't together anymore and I'm not planning on having kids anytime soon.
So another strange and ridiculous dream.

So Drawing Day, an international day for drawing was Saturday.
I only made four mixed media drawings (and quickly at that) but here they are.

trip to the aquarium

It's no surprise that I think marine life is beautiful.
I went to the National Aquarium in Baltimore yesterday and here are some pictures from my blackberry.

I know in my last entry I blogged about Drawing Day, I made four small mixed media drawings. When I scan them, I'll hopefully remember to post them.

Art Wish List!!

So I always need art supplies....

I thought this would be a good idea to make a list of what I actually need in case people wanted to buy me art related things:

One of my first things is Rives Light weight paper 19" x 26", I heard a rumor it's being discontinued but it's one of my favorite papers. I print and draw on it.

GOCCO supplies. I always need Gocco any color really. But if you question just buy me black, white and the primary colors. I also always needs screens (I have a PG5 so buy the smaller screens) and the flashbulbs. GOCCO was discontinued a while ago so I always want to stock up as much as I can!

Japanese paper. it can be plain or have printed imagery on it, it's great for printing on, collaging and chine colle-ing with.

Printmaking Ink! I really like Daniel Smith's block printing ink. I also really love Graphic Chemical's Blue Black Etching ink. I also like Charbonnel etching inks. But I'm partial to trying all kinds of printmaking inks and I really need to stock up for grad I'd love to try some of those Aqua-Kolor inks (you can find these on dick blick) or any inks that are oil based that can be cleaned up with soap and water! :)
--I also need ink knives/spatulas and brayers :) As well as, Graphic Chemical Easy wipe or Graphic Chemical's gel medium.

Gouache is my favorite type of paint. That said, I LOVE Winsor & Newton Designer's Gouache. It's the best and it mixes fabulously, feel free to get me any colors! :)
--Pelikan also has a gouache set in cake form that I've tried out and liked. Remember gouache is opaque not transparent like watercolor.

Uni-ball pens. Any kind except the super fine tips. These are my favorite pens ever.
--but really I like all kinds of pens that are gel like, microns, pentel and faber castell both make pens and markers that I like. Any pens with interesting colors. I also tend to have sharpies around.

Prismacolor pencils. You can never have enough. I tend to lose the white and black pencils first, so I could always use more.
--I also would like to try out polychromo and dick blick colored pencils.

As far as sketchbooks go, I'm a moleskine addict. I love their regular and pocket sized sketchbooks.
--eventually, I'd like to try one the watercolor books.

Various papers. Really any paper...watercolor, printmaking, drawing, wet media, dry media, etc...I'll probably try it out.

Archival Boxes. Yes, these are something I've pretty much always needed. Ask me what size.

Old National Geographic Magazines, I love looking through them and then cutting them up and recycling them into new things. :)

Found Photographs and Unwanted Photographs. Really, I want them! :)

Cardboard Portfolios because I always am moving things sometimes these are great for storing paper :)

....other things, just ASK!!

this is how i feel, artist trading cards

ink and watercolor.

I was talking to a friend recently about how we all have weird obsessions/quirks.
(That could possibly me seen as compulsive).

Here are mine (in no particular order):
1. I used to touch doorways entering and exiting houses as a kid, I considered it good luck...and I assumed if I didn't something bad would happen.
2. If I panic I count to ten, I don't think it calms anything down in my mind but I still do it anyway.
3. I try to talk to the people I'm close to as often as possible, I have a fear of losing people. But if I'm truly upset about things between us, I can't deal and am reserved/quiet.
4. I'm very superstitious. I don't walk under ladders. I get nervous when I see black cats on the street. I wish when I'm driving over railroads tracks and when I see 11:11 on the clock. I don't open umbrellas indoors. I believe in ghosts.
5. I used to count trees as a kid, when my mom was driving and I was sitting in the backseat.

..Most of the time I can't handle my own emotions. So this isn't a compulsion or quirk, but it's really true of me.

The more comments I get on it, the more it's likely I'll be giving some more small giveaways to various participants to my giveway!!

On to my blog posting today,
I realize that I am far to negative about everything in my life lately.
I stress myself out way beyond than any 22 year old woman should over all kinds of silly things.

For this reason, I am going to start recording some of the things that make me happy on random days.

So what made me happy today (in no particular order):

1. Veggie Stirfry with Rice with a Chile Garlic sauce for lunch. And a sweet brownie with chocolate chips that I probably shouldn't of eaten.
2. Logging in to my blog to see that I had 76 comments on my One World One Heart post, and it's growing! You guys rock and it excites me that you are all interested in my atcs and extra goodies!!
3. My Jeans are kind of short at the bottom, which makes me feel like my legs are longer.
4. I received some lovely atcs (artist trading cards) in the mail today!
5. I get to watch Whale Rider in my Religion and Film class tonight. I started watching it a couple of weeks ago on netflix with JR, but the streaming got messed up. I'm excited to see the other half I missed.
6. I'm probably going to have some portabella mushrooms with fresh rosemary either tonight for dinner or tomorrow.
7. My hair is behaving today, it looks like this picture below:

thanks for reading!! :)
